Sixteen s97's competed in this years Metropolitan Championship series, making it one of the best attended seasons in S97 history and with enquiries about next seasons events already coming in from more S97's, next year looks like it will be even better. Starting with the Winter Short Course Championships being held on Matilda Bay on July 5th and 6th.

SKALLAGRIGG WINS

The 2007 S97 Winter Championships were conducted by RPYC on the 23rd and 24th June. It was a great success with 10 boats competing in conditions that varied from gail force to doldrums.
Congratulations to Andrew Jordan and the crew of Skallagrigg for their win overall.
Second was Wyuna II Denis Vincent and 3rd was another new comer in Magnum skippered by Nigel Gribble. In the Consistancy Championship first place went to Dawn V Ryan Binedell, second was Silver Fern Alastair McMichael and third was Hejira John Bailey. In the Classic Division (pre 2006 sail plan), first was Silver Fern and second was Brian Innes on Stress Management.

It was a great weekend and all 6 races were closely contested in the short course concept on Maltida Bay.
Day 1 was sailed in squally conditions and only 2 of the scheduled 3 races were completed after several 40 knot squalls in race 2, where Ray McAullays Total Recall lost its rig and only 4 of the 10 starters finished, prompted the committee to abandoned racing for the day.

Day 2 was sailed in much calmer conditions with winds under 10 knots. Hejira finished the day with two wins and and two 5ths but it wasnt enough to force his way past Skallagrigg to a podeum finish.

With six of the ten skippers new to the class, all looks good for the season ahead.
